Why a card sweepstakes,
and what happens to your entry

Habitat for Humanity of Bowling Green – Warren County has been building alongside local families for decades. This is a new way to fund that work — built in the open, with a hometown card partner, and designed so you can check every claim on this page.

THE WHY

A house costs more than a bourbon raffle can raise.

Habitat BG has run good local fundraisers for years. They work — and they cap out at the size of the room. A sweepstakes that lives online can be entered from anywhere, which means a collector in Oregon can help frame a wall on Highway 185 without ever setting foot in Warren County.

Cards are the reason people show up. Homes are the reason it exists. We think you can be honest about both.

WHAT HABITAT DOES

Not a giveaway. A hand up, with a mortgage attached.

The most common misunderstanding about Habitat is that the homes are free. They are not. Families buy them — they just get terms that make ownership possible.

Homeownership

Sweat equity, then a key

Partner families earn 150 hours of sweat equity — painting, flooring, working on their own home and their neighbors’ — then buy the house with a 0% interest mortgage over roughly 25 years, with payments kept under 30% of their income.

Repairs

Rooted & Rising

Not every family needs a new house. Habitat’s repair program helps existing homeowners — often older neighbors on fixed incomes — stay safely in the homes they already have.

The ReStore

Twenty years on College Street

Habitat’s ReStore resells donated furniture, appliances and building materials at a fraction of retail. It keeps usable goods out of the landfill, gives volunteers a place to plug in, and funds the build.

Fifty homes have gone up in the Durbin Estates development alone since 2012. The next chapter is bigger — and it is what your entry pays for.

HOW IT GETS BUILT

“In everything we do at Habitat, we do empowered by the strength of collaboration.”

— Habitat for Humanity of Bowling Green – Warren County

That is not a slogan they printed for a wall. Durbin Estates got finished because the city, the state, local trades, churches, businesses and a lot of volunteers pulled in the same direction. This sweepstakes is the same shape: Habitat runs the mission, a Bowling Green card company builds the prizes, Yellowberri builds and administers the draw, and the ReStore crew is helping us break it before anyone else sees it.

THE CARD PARTNER

The Fan Stand

Joe Daley is a Bowling Green guy. A mechanical engineer by trade, a lifelong collector, and the owner of The Fan Stand — the trading-card vending company he started in 2020 after collecting old coin-op machines and watching his two sons fall for the hobby.

Those machines now live in shopping malls, youth sports complexes, airports and Kroger stores across eight states — and on four Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Touchscreens instead of keypads, an elevator system so nothing drops, acrylic cases so a pack survives the trip home. He calls it “additive to the hobby”: putting cards where people already are, so somebody new can find them.

Joe sources, grades and assembles every prize package for this sweepstakes, and donates the time. A Fan Stand machine is headed for the ReStore, too — which means the guy whose machines are on cruise ships is putting one in his hometown to help build houses.

ENTER IN PERSON

Come by the ReStore. Walk out with entries.

A Fan Stand machine is going into the Habitat ReStore — and next to it, a way to enter this sweepstakes without spending a dime. Scan the code or fill out a card at the desk and your entries go into the same ledger as everyone else’s, numbered the same way, with the same odds.

Rip a pack while you’re there if you want to. It is a good time and it supports the store. It just doesn’t change your chances — entering is always free, in the store and online.

WHAT TO EXPECT

How a draw actually runs

No mystery box. Here is the whole sequence, start to finish.

01

You enter

Donate for entries, or take the free entry route — the odds are the same either way. Every entry becomes a numbered row in a permanent ledger the moment it is created.

02

Entries lock

At the published deadline, entries close and the total count is frozen and posted publicly before anyone draws anything. Nothing can be added after that.

03

The draw happens live

The winning number is selected using a third-party random-draw service and shown on stream. We submit entry numbers only — never names or personal details.

04

The winner is verified, then paid out

The holder of that number is a “potential winner” until we verify eligibility. Then the prize ships insured, and the handoff gets documented. The replay and the result stay up permanently.

WHERE THE MONEY GOES

We publish the split.

Prizes are sourced through The Fan Stand. Habitat pays for them directly and keeps the books. After each event we publish what came in, what the prizes cost, and what went to the build — because a fundraiser that will not show you the math is asking for a lot of trust it has not earned.

One thing we will always say plainly: entries are not tax-deductible. When you receive a chance to win something in return for a donation, the IRS does not treat it as a charitable contribution. Anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing.

Be first in line when entries open

One email when the first event goes live. No spam, no daily nonsense.
